Good spirit but errors made City defeat our own fault

well but in the away games at Luton and here, it cost us the game. It is a pity.

Q) Is the feeling the same as after the defeat at Luton - a mixture of frustration and anger?

PC: Yes. I cannot ask more of the players the way they played. They tried to press us but they couldn’t, so I cannot blame them for anything, only to do a better job in marking or preventing a cross, it is a type of desire in yourself.

We are maybe not the tallest team but still you can make sure that if I am not getting it, my opponent is not heading the ball.

That is a frustration and I will show them the statistics because then it is more visible what a high percentage of goals we concede in that way.

Q) You have been on a good run. Do you see this defeat as a blip and one that will not knock confidence too much?

PC: No, it will not affect our confidence but we have to show ourselves on Saturday.

Every game is tough. We still have the confidence and if we improve certain aspects of the game, we show we can get good results but this is a big setback.

They hit back with goals from Martyn Waghorn, his 11th of the season, and Martin, his eighth, but they could not find an equaliser.

Martin said there are positives moving forward if the “silly mistakes” can be erased.

“It is disappointing that we couldn’t keep the momentum from the previous away win at the weekend,” the striker told RamsTV.

“You saw the same sort of fight at the end but it came too little too late.

“I think there are some positives moving forward that we can continue if we can cut out those silly mistakes and the errors in set plays.”

Defeat was only Derby’s second in 12 matches in all competitions but it leaves them 10 points adrift of the play-off places with 14 games remaining.

Preston North End are sixth on 53 points, the same tally as Bristol City, who are seventh.

“We spoke about it in the dressing room and we didn’t feel like they (Bristol City) were particularly better than us over the course of the 90
