Young Rams waiting for the draw

-

DERBY County will find out today who they will face in the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League.

The Rams beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the final play-off round at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Eiran Cashin, Jordan Brown and Louie Sibley.

Justin Walker’s side have qualified for the last 16 through the domestic champions’ path, having won the Under-18s Premier League title last season.

They have also beaten Belarusian side FC Minsk and IA Akranes of Iceland along the way. The draw is at 2pm.

The side drawn out first is the home team and there is no seeding or country protection, meaning Derby could be paired with

Liverpool.

Each game through to and including the final is one leg only.

Here are the teams in the last 16:

Ajax, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Crvena Zvezda, Derby County, Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Lyon, Midtjylland, Real Madrid, Rennes, Salzburg. minutes but we conceded some poor goals,” said Martin.

“We have only got ourselves to blame because I felt that we were in control on the balance of play but the balance of play doesn’t matter. It is what you do in the boxes – the desire to put it in one end and at the other end keep it out. We weren’t good enough at that.”

Derby fell short despite their spirited late rally.

“We fought brilliantly but it is frustrating when we showed that intensity when we were 3-0 down,” said Martin.

“It is difficult to put our finger on exactly why because it felt like we played quite well but it is just moments, a bit of concentration, set plays and balls into our box that we know we have to deal with in this league.

“It felt like we were going to go on and get an equaliser. I thought we were well on top in the game and they were hanging on towards the end.

“We will have to go away and analyse it and see exactly why but the manager has just said that he can’t fault a lot of the football that we did play, it is just decided on those details and then those moments.”
