KOALA bear entreprene­ur Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughe­y) inherited a theatre from his father, but the business has gone into decline. In order to woo audiences and save the business, Buster organises a singing competitio­n with a $1,000 prize. Unfortunat­ely, Buster’s elderly iguana assistant Ms Crawly accidental­ly adds two more zeroes to the prize on promotiona­l posters. By the time Buster discovers her error, long audition queues have formed. Animal hopefuls are voiced by Reese Witherspoo­n, Seth MacFarlane and Scarlett Johansson in this lively, if predictabl­e animation.

2 THE PROPOSAL Tomorrow, Channel 5, 10pm

IN the hallowed corridors of Ruick & Hunt Publishing, New York book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is feared by all, including her long-suffering assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds, pictured with Bullock). When Margaret is threatened with deportatio­n to Canada, she forces Andrew to wed her so that she gains citizenshi­p... but then sparks start to fly.

3 GONE GIRL Monday, Film4, 9pm

ON his fifth wedding anniversar­y, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck, pictured) calls the police to report his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) missing. Amy’s parents (David Clennon, Lisa Beth) join Nick to front a media campaign to secure Amy’s safe return, but in the glare of the spotlight, fractures are exposed in the Dunnes’ marriage and Nick’s falls under suspicion.

4 THE FLORIDA PROJECT Tuesday, Film4, 11.25pm

IN the shadow of Walt Disney World, struggling single mum Halley (Bria Vinaite) sells fragrances to theme park visitors, aided by her daughter Moonee, six (Brooklynn Prince), to pay for a room at the Magic Castle Motel, presided over by a kind manager (Willem Dafoe, pictured with Prince). But then Moonee’s escapades with her pals result in a fire at an abandoned warehouse.

5 MY COUSIN RACHEL Wednesday, Film4, 9pm

ORPHAN Philip (Sam Claflin) is raised by his older cousin Ambrose on an estate in Cornwall. When Ambrose falls ill, he heads for Italy to recuperate. Philip receives a troubling letter from Ambrose, which reveals he has married a woman called Rachel (Rachel Weisz, pictured with Claflin), who may or may not be poisoning him. When Ambrose dies, Philip vows revenge.

6 PRETTY WOMAN Thursday, Sony Movies, 9pm

JULIA ROBERTS gives a star-making performanc­e in the rags-to-riches fairy tale of prostitute Vivian, plucked off the streets of LA by handsome and commitment-shy executive Edward Lewis (Richard Gere, pictured with Roberts). After agreeing to become his paid companion for the week, their relationsh­ip threatens to become more than just business.

7 IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT Friday, BBC2, 11.45pm

WHEN a wealthy industrial­ist is found murdered in a Mississipp­i town, the racist local sheriff Bill Gillespie (Rod Steiger) accuses black newcomer Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier, pictured with Lee Grant), only to discover his chief suspect is a homicide detective from Philadelph­ia. Despite this poor start, the pair slowly bond as they seek the real killer.
