Injured pair add to Rams frustrations

Wayne Rooney takes a tumble as he challenges Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl in the game at Pride Park Stadium. Martyn Waghorn came close to a second goal for Derby County but his diving header (inset) was well saved by the keeper.

DERBY County are sweating on the fitness of Duane Holmes and Andre Wisdom ahead of the next game against Fulham.

Holmes, one of Derby’s better performers this season, limped off in the first half of the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town.

“That is a big blow because he has played some great football over a long period of time and is an important player for us,” said manager Phillip Cocu.

“He got a kick on his ankle and it twisted. He will probably have a scan to see how much damage there is but it is something we are not pleased about.”

Wisdom went off after 79 minutes with a hamstring problem.

“It was a bit of tightness (Wisdom’s hamstring) that got worse by the minute,” said Cocu.

“Normally, he never has any issues about pain but due to the tightness we had to get him off. We have to judge on Monday how he feels and if it is something more, we will go to the hospital for a scan.

“I hope for both that they are not out long because they have both played well in the last couple of games. It would be a big setback if they are out.”

Craig Forsyth said that Derby’s failure to kill off Huddersfield came back to bite them and that they had “thrown away two points”.

“It’s two points dropped when you look at it,” he told RamsTV. “With 10 minutes left and being 1-0 up, we should see the game out.

“It wasn’t the easiest conditions but it is the same for both teams and we just have to get on with it.

“That’s why we tried to keep it on the floor, pass it around, play it side to side and I think we did that well without really taking our chances and being ruthless.

“We felt in control when we scored and a moment switching off is all it takes.

“It’s a poor goal for us to lose and we have thrown away two points.

“We didn’t really capitalise and get the second goal which would have killed the game off.

“We had a couple of chances and we didn’t take them and it’s come back to bite us.”
