Temperatures set to spring up - and could even hit 20c

PLENTY OF WARM SUNSHINE FORECAST, BUT SO TOO ARE APRIL SHOWERS

SPRING is about to make a comeback in Derby and Derbyshire as the chilly northerly winds finally back away and open the door for some warmth.

Temperatures are expected to reach well into double figures by the weekend.

The tide will start to turn on Saturday, as the wind direction changes and we start to pull up warm air from the south, rather than cold air from the north.

Most forecasting models agree this milder spell should last throughout the Easter period, bringing plenty of warm sunshine and temperatures that could even reach 20C, if the sun breaks through for long enough.

However, there is a price to pay for all this spring warmth.

The southern flow will be less settled than the northerly Arctic air, and this will mean spells of rain are far more likely.

There is nothing to suggest we’re in for severe rain, or anything too heavy, but expect a typical early April outlook of sunshine and showers, heavy at times but often fleeting in nature.

The rest of this week will play out largely as it has begun.

Overnight temperatures will stay low until the weekend, but daytime temperatures will pick up briefly today, if only just into double figures.

It will stay fairly breezy and feel cold throughout. Tomorrow could see a few sunny spells but will still feel cold, especially in the morning and overnight into Saturday, which is when the change will occur.

Saturday looks set to be cloudy but dry and relatively mild but will lead into what currently promises to be a much better day on Sunday, which will hopefully deliver plenty of sunshine and temperatures up to 18C in Derbyshire, possibly higher.

Early predictions suggest this pattern could stick around next week, so nights will be milder, daytimes could be lovely in the sun, but also expect to see some rain mixing in.
