Old Manchester line should reopen too

I REFER to Derby Telegraph article (“Reopening of railway route a step closer”, May 26). With regards to the reopening of the Leicester-toBurton railway line.

Why can we not get the original main line from Derby to Manchester reopened? I don’t think HS2, if does come, will link Derby directly to Manchester or the North West.

Surely reopening the original main line will bring tourism into the area and cut down road traffic. At the heart of the Peak District Millers Dale station in 1906 boasted five platforms.
