Woman’s body found in hotel after overdose

-

AN inquest has heard how a woman was found dead while staying at a Derby hotel.

Derbyshire Coroners’ Court heard the body of Amanda Linthwaite was found on the bed of her room at the Georgian House Hotel last year.

The inquest, which was recorded for release to the media, heard how Ms Linthwaite, who worked as a chartered accountant, took an intended overdose while staying overnight at the four-star Ashbourne Road hotel.

Emergency services were called after the body of the 51-year-old was found on the morning of November 16. A suicide note was found in the room.

Derbyshire Coroners’ Court heard staff at the hotel had become concerned for her welfare after noticing food and drink outside her room had been untouched and that she didn’t appear on time for checkout.

The inquest also heard Ms Linthwaite was married and lived in the Darley Abbey area.

Assistant coroner Louise Pinder said: “Amanda Linthwaite was found deceased in a room at the Georgian House Hotel on Ashbourne Road, Derby, on November 16, 2019. She left notes indicating that the fatal overdose was deliberate. In those circumstances and relying on that evidence I can formally conclude that Amanda Linthwaite took her own life. The conclusion of suicide will therefore be recorded on the record of inquest. I offer Ms Linthwaite’s family my sincere condolences.” ■■Samaritans (116 123) operates a 24-hour service available every day of the year.
