Don sees £1m lockdown boom in motorhome and caravans

A DERBYSHIRE leisure company has seen a boom in motorhome and caravan sales during lockdown.

The Don Amott Group in Hilton has taken nearly £1 million in deposits for leisure vehicles in the past three weeks.

The firm puts the increased interest down to the fact that people will be unlikely to take foreign holidays this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Boss Don Amott described inquiries and sales as having snowballed over the last three weeks “ever since Brexit the appeal of re-discovering the great British holiday has been in people’s minds, and especially now with the coronavirus crisis and the spell of good weather.

“The freedom that owning a motorhome or touring caravan brings, and the option of buying your own holiday home, are the perfect solutions and seem like sensible options.”

The company’s 25-acre caravan sales ground at Hilton, its five Lincolnshire holiday home parks, and its caravan site in North Somercotes, are currently closed. While the sites have been shut the Don Amott Group has been offering customers virtual tours of the vehicles and holiday homes.

Mr Amott said: “What we were able to do for visitors to our websites was to send video footage of the vehicles or holiday homes they were interested in and in some cases arrange a secure private viewing.”

The firm hopes to reopen all of its sites by July 1.

Mr Amott said: “We are still a familyrun business which has been providing UK holiday solutions since 1963 and we are committed to supplying our customers with a safe and secure investment that they can enjoy year in, year out.”
