Pop stars’ pub goes for £250,000

A WELL-known Derby pub which has hosted acts such as Kasabian, Snow Patrol, The Damned and Biffy Clyro has been sold.

The Victoria Inn, near Derby Midland Station, has been closed for more than a year, having last welcomed customers in early 2019. It is now under new ownership after being sold by owner Admiral Taverns.

According to commercial property agent Everard Cole, the Midland Place venue has been purchased by an East Midlands entrepreneur for more than £250,000.

In its pomp, the pub, known as the Vic, was a key part of Derby’s live music scene, hosting a number of bands, some long before they found fame, such as The Libertines, Snow Patrol, David Gray, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro.

Punk legends The Damned have played the Vic, as have Mick Jones, formerly of The Clash, and 80s Two Tone ska revival band The Beat.

Former landlord Micky Sheehan, who ran the Vic at its height of its fame, said: “My 13 years there will be fondly remembered. I’m currently working on a book about Derby’s music and club scene from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.”

The pub has three main areas, a tap room, a lounge with an open fire, and a music venue to the rear, which was refurbished and turned into a function room in 2016. It has a fully equipped galley kitchen and a paved, outdoor seating and smoking area at the back of the building. Upstairs, the private accommodation consists of three large bedrooms, a living room and an office.

The Derby Telegraph is trying to contact the new owner to find out what is planned for the pub.
