Poppies take pride of place on bus fleet
TRENTBARTON is showing its support for the men and women who served their country by placing poppies on all 250 buses and coaches during this year’s appeal by The Royal British Legion.
Legion representative Brian Brown, 84, from Ilkeston, met with fellow veteran and Trentbarton lead driver Eric Clarke to see the poppies decorate the firm’s buses.
The poppies will be on board until after Remembrance Day.
Trentbarton is donating £500 to The Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal and Eric, of Hucknall, said: “The sacrifices the Poppy Appeal remembers and the freedoms we enjoy should never be forgotten.”
Eric, who was in the RAF for almost six years, including as ground crew for the Red Arrows, said: “Especially in a year like this some of our veterans will be in even more need. Putting the poppies on all our buses is a great idea.”
Brian, who has been involved with the Legion for 40 years, sells poppies at his local supermarket and said: “This year has been very difficult for many charities. It’s very important this Poppy Appeal raises as much money as possible.”
Brian was in the Royal Army Service Corps for nine years before joining the Territorial Army for 17 years. He said: “We have to keep the continuity of our support going. We haven’t stopped the many ways we look after our veterans. It is absolutely wonderful to have the support of trentbarton which has always backed us so well.”
