Lyon doubles up to end Dons’ run at top

SCOTT Lyon scored a brace for Mayfield as they ended Castle Donington’s unbeaten start to the G&T Jenkins Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division campaign, writes Dan Bishop.

The 2-0 defeat for the Dons means both Allenton United and Derby Singh Brothers were able to draw level on points with the leaders.

Allenton did so courtesy of a 5-0 win away against Shirebrook Rangers. They were four goals to the good at half-time thanks to Jorge Eley, L’varn Brandy, Paco Box and Sam Blount, before Eley completed the scoring midway through the second half.

Derby Singh Brothers won 4-2 at home against Rolls-Royce Leisure, with Kieran O’Connell (2), Kishan Patel and Khaleeq Shafique on target for the hosts.

Moira United ended a run of three defeats with a 5-1 home victory over Ashbourne Reserves thanks to goals from James Ward (2), Alex Pearson, Jack Willars and Jamie Bourne.

Jamie Laird netted for Allestree but Michael Chapman struck twice for visitors Sleetmoor United to secure the points with a 2-1 win.

Gavin McCready (2), Josh Lambert, Michael Barnett, Nick Grogan and Joe Dale scored for Little Eaton as they hit six without reply at home against Cromford & Wirksworth Town Reserves.

The remaining Premier Division game ended all square at 2-2, with Max Minshull and Steve Webster netting for Tibshelf and Liam Fisher and Jack Rose scoring for Rowsley 86 Reserves.

That result was repeated at Cockshut Lane, where Division One leaders Melbourne Dynamo Reserves had to content themselves with a point against Newhall United.

Joe Shadbolt and Callum Horton scored for Dynamo, Brandon Edwards and Owen Judd for the visitors.

Hilton Harriers Reserves continued their recent fine form by winning 6-1 at home to Sherwin.

Harry Baines (2), Max Peplow, Lewis Hanley, Callum Samson and Cameron Davis were on target for Hilton, with Connor Cobbledick scoring for Sherwin.

Tino Mtangadura scored twice for University of Derby as they won 4-0 away against Burton United, with Joe Kelly and Nick Pereira joining him on the scoresheet.

Punjab United stay top of Division Two despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Melbourne Dynamo Developmen­t.

Connor Jacob scored for home side Punjab, with Gavin Spencer netting for Dynamo.
