No-go for Dursun?
DERBY County would not be able to land striker Serdar Dursun in January, if they wanted to, following a postBrexit shake-up for football transfers from the European Union.
A new points-based system has been agreed by the FA, Premier League and EFL in conjunction with the Home Office.
This will come into effect for the January transfer window next month and will be reviewed ahead of the summer 2021 window.
Players arriving from the EU will be required to gain a GBE (Governing Body Endorsement) for them to work in the UK.
The GBE will be decided on categories such as the senior and youth international appearances of the player, the quality of the selling club based on the league they are in, league position and progression in continental competition and club appearances based on domestic league and continental competition minutes.
Players who fail to reach the number of points required will be able to go to an Exceptions Panel to try to get a GBE.
What, for example, would the rule changes mean for the Rams’ chances of landing a player like Serdar Dursun in January, should they want to?
The Rams showed interest in the player in the summer and made bids for the 29-year-old, who plays for SV Darmstadt 98 in 2.Bundesliga, the second tier of German football. He has no senior international caps.
A move for Dursun next month would be affected as he would not fit the new criteria at the minute, it seems.
