Vijay’s 6m Santa can almost reach chimney!

-

CHRISTMAS decorations are appearing thick and fast... but none bigger than Vijay Kumar Madara’s six-metre tall Santa.

Vijay lives in Stenson Road, Normanton, and could still have the largest decoration in Derby.

Making its first appearance in 2018, this gigantic Santa was unable to be seen last year as Vijay was working until Christmas Eve.

Now on furlough, Vijay has been able to show off his biggest and best Christmas decoration early this year.

“I just had to do it to cheer myself up, and the kids up, the parents up,” Vijay said. “I wanted to do something really good this year because of what’s going on.

“There was a kid and his mom, and the kid was staring at it. It was like a real life Banksy.”

It’s not only Santa who makes an appearance, at 4pm. Weather permitting, Vijay goes on to his balcony to play music through a

Vijay Kumar Madara and his six-metre high Santa set of speakers. “Everyone starts listening and the kids starting waving, so I do that for an hour or so,” he said.

Vijay has been having requests for his Santa to make a return since its first appe appearance.

“I get it all year round, what’s coming next? What’s coming next?” Vijay had wanted to c continue to improve his fe festive display but due to be being on furlough he could not make all the improv improvements he had planned. He does have some ideas for next Christmas, though.

“I really wanted to put LED lights up, but all I’ve done is revamped the normal lights. Every year I try to do it better, it’s like with a car – you don’t get an older one you try and get a better one and a better one. Hopefully when we all get out of this I can do that.”
