Derbyshire records 744 new cases in 24 hours

THERE have been seven new hospital deaths linked to Covid-19 across Derbyshire, according to the latest NHS England figures.

And in the most recent 24-hour period, there were 744 new cases of coronavirus recorded across Derby and Derbyshire.

In Derby, there was a rise of 234 – down from the figure of 307 released yesterday - bringing the city’s total since the start of the pandemic to 11,507 cases.

There was an increase of 510 across the rest of Derbyshire, including 120 new positive tests in Amber Valley, 86 in South Derbyshire and 71 in Erewash.

Of the new fatalities, four were recorded at Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust and three at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 60,916 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK – the highest daily total reported so far. It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 2,774,479.

The Government said a further 830 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 76,305.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 92,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

Locally, the number of Covidrelated deaths since the start of the pandemic is as follows:

Derby and Burton NHS Trust - 1,001 (up four); Chesterfield Royal Hospital - 214 (up three); Derbyshire Community Health Services - 26 (no change); Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 (no change).
