Nightclub that had several identities is back on market

-

A FORMER nightclub is back on the market having been closed as a dance venue for almost two years.

The former Barracuda nightclub in Burton, previously named Burton Snatch, Gravity and Camino among others, was last home to a temporary art exhibition in 2019.

Before that it was a nightclub in 2018 when it was called the Burton Snatch but closed just three weeks after opening when its ‘designated premises supervisor’ stepped down, leaving the nightspot unable to sell alcohol. It never reopened as a nightclub again.

Now, commercial estate agents Rushton Hickman is marketing the property, in Station Street, and it is up for let for £40,000 a year.

The marketing report said it could be suitable for a variety of retail, licenced, restaurant, hospitality or leisure uses subject to change of use planning consent from the council where necessary.

The name Burton Snatch was picked in a bid to attract older clubbers to the venue who recognised the meaning of the title, the owners said at launch. The ‘snatch’ was the name given to the eggy smell in Burton that comes from brewing beer.

The front room of the venue offered live and acoustic bands for clubbers “looking for a more chilled night out”.

Twelve members of staff were employed at the club, with managers saying that they were hopeful of creating 25 jobs once the venue had found its feet, but it was not to be.

Revellers were even able to dry and straighten their hair in the toilets and charge their phones in seating booths.

It later temporarily became the Fragile Centre For Contemporary Art.
