MOUNTAIN Rescue volunteers were first on the scene of an incident in the Peak District in which a walker suffered a heavy fall.

The walker sustained a suspected fractured hip after slipping while out on a family walk at Abney Clough, near the village of Abney, near Hathersage, in the Derbyshire Dales.

Members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team were first to arrive at the scene of the incident, which happened at around 2.45pm on Dunday.

The volunteers administered pain relief at the scene, before Helimed 98 from Yorkshire Air Ambulance arrived.

The rescue team then stretchered the patient into the care of East Midlands Ambulance Service to be taken to hospital via land ambulance.

Posting about the incident on Facebook, a spokesperson for Edale Mountain Rescue Team wrote: “Just as team members were returning to our base in Hope to clean and sort kit from a previous incident we were made aware of a second job somewhere near Abney village.

“On making contact with the informant the casualty party was located further east in Abney Clough.

“A walker out with their family had taken a slip and fallen badly on their hip, causing a suspected fracture.

“Due to the potentially serious nature of the injury Yorkshire Air Ambulance Helimed 98 was also dispatched and arrived on scene shortly after the team.

“The casualty was given pain relief and stretchered to a waiting East Midlands ambulance for onward transport to hospital.”
