Almost 100 new coronaviru­s cases are recorded across Derbyshire in 24 hours

ANOTHER 93 cases of coronaviru­s have been recorded across Derbyshire and Derby, according to Government statistics released on Friday evening.

The total, up from the 86 positive tests announced on Wednesday, includes 17 cases in Derby and 76 across the wider county.

Outside of Derby, South Derbyshire recorded the biggest increase, with 13 more people diagnosed.

The new figures bring the total number of cases in Derby and Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic to 68,129.

Meanwhile there have been no further deaths of people with Covid-19 in Derbyshire NHS trusts.

There have been 2,090 coronaviru­s-related fatalities at Derbyshire hospitals in total.

■■South Derbyshire 7,207 (13) The Government said a further 70 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 126,515.

Separate figures by the UK’s statistics agencies show have been 149,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 6,187 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,325,315.

■■Derbyshire Healthcare 2 (0) Government data up to March 25 shows that of the 32,325,993 jabs given in the UK so far, 29,316,130 were first doses – a rise of 324,942 on the previous day. Some 3,009,863 were second doses, an increase of 234,382.
