Clubs sign up for Spring Cup local tournament

TEN local non-League clubs will take part in the Don Amott Spring Cup, sponsored by the Mickleover FC chairman, that will fill in until the end of the season.

Football at non-elite level was halted for a second season by the Covid-19 pandemic but with restrictio­ns on outdoor sport being eased, a number of short tournament­s are being arranged.

The Don Amott Spring Cup kicks off with a game between Borrowash Victoria and Mickleover on Saturday, April 17.

Two groups have been set up and the top teams in each after they have all played each other once will qualify for semi-finals.

The next two in each group will play in “trophy” semi-finals, then a finals day will be held woth matches on the same day, Saturday, May 22, at Borrowash’s Anderson Electrical Arena.

Organisers hope that, by the finals day, spectators may be able to attend but that is subject to confirmati­on.

Involved in Group A are Borrowash, Mickleover, Gresley Rovers, Ashby Ivanhoe and Ingles.

Group B features Graham Street Prims, Heanor Town, Belper United, Barrow Town and Stapleford Town.

April 24: Stapleford v Prims, Heanor v Belper, Mickleover v Ingles, Gresley v Borrowash. May 1: Ingles v Borrowash, Ashby v Gresley, Prims v Barrow, Stapleford v Heanor. May 5: Belper v Prims, Barrow v Stapleford, Borrowash v Ashby, Mickleover v Gresley. May 8: Gresley v Ingles, Ashby v Mickleover, Belper v Stapleford, Heanor v Barrow. May 22: Finals day.
