Man’s death sparks plea for witnesses

-

POLICE have launched a witness appeal after a young man was found collapsed in a Derby street and died a short time later.

The 29-year-old was found in Harvey Road, Alvaston, by a concerned passer-by who stopped to help him.

Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service called officers to the scene just before 5am on Sunday.

The man was pronounced dead a short time later. Flowers have since been laid at the scene with candles also lit in his memory.

A police cordon remained in place overnight and for much of the morning on Monday. It was set up next to a public footpath close to the Aldi supermarket and Esso petrol station.

Officers investigating the circumstances of the man’s death are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident.

They say there will be an increased police presence in the Alvaston area over the coming days as local officers carry out extra patrols.

Residents have been urged to approach the officers if they want to pass on any information, or raise any other issues.
