Meldrew would back me on this nonsense

-

WHAT the great Victor Meldrew has so often said – “I don’t believe it!” – comes to mind when reading the foolish quotes in the daily newspapers.

Amanda Holden was quoted as saying that it is “an honour” to announce the points that the UK has been awarded in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Similarly, Graham Norton says it is the best night of the year and he cannot wait.

How easily pleased are these folk? Further on, I read that the “top brass” for the Ministry of Defence have told the “squaddies” that the words “mankind” and “sportsmanship” are barred because the MoD has become gender neutral. The words gents, men and lads should not be used.

These people are not part of the world I know, spouting this piffle. Make it stop!
