COUNCIL: MUCH HAS CHANGED
DERBY City Council released the following statement: “Over the last 20 years our understanding of child exploitation and modern slavery in Derby, and across the country as a whole, has changed completely, and today we are in a much better position to recognise the dangers facing our most vulnerable children.
“Key changes in the law during this time have supported agency recognition of child exploitation and provided guidance on best practice to better protect children.
“In 2010 the then Derby Safeguarding Children Board completed a Serious Case Review which led to a significant programme of local multi-agency training and development to identify and respond to concerns about child sexual exploitation.
“The development of the exploitation strategy has continued, and Derby City Council now works with a range of partners within the county and across county borders to ensure consistent approaches and protection of children at risk of any form of exploitation. This work is also guided by the lessons learned historically.”
Anyone suffering from exploitation, or has information in relation to exploitation, should call Derbyshire police on 101 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
