Police exclusion zone to keep boy racers at bay
REPORTS OF RACING AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AT CAR MEETS
POLICE have set up a no-go zone including large parts of Derby to keep boy racers out of the city.
Markeaton Park and Darley Abbey, in Derby, and areas of Long Eaton and Sawley will be under a special police dispersal order for the coming days, the force has announced.
It means officers will be able to order groups of people to leave the area if they start to congregate in order to prevent anti-social behaviour.
Derbyshire police says it is taking action following concerns over car meets taking place in Long Eaton, with some of the vehicles travelling to
Derby.
Police say some individuals are believed to be causing antisocial behaviour at times, involving driving antisocially, speeding and racing.
A dispersal order allows police officers the immediate power to tackle anti-social behaviour, such as allowing them to move groups on if they suspect such behaviour is likely to occur. Officers can also impose short-term bans on individuals returning to a specified area.
Derbyshire police say the whole of Markeaton Park is under the dispersal order as well as the whole of Darley Abbey and parts of Chester Green.
A large area covering Sawley and Long Eaton is also included.
The force said on its Facebook page: “While many are motoring enthusiasts, there have also been several reports of some of them driving anti-socially, speeding and racing.”
Last week, Derbyshire police also clamped down over speeding on a busy Derby road. Officers carried out checks on the speeding cars and other vehicles travelling on Infinity Park Way, through Sinfin.
Checks were carried out on the road following concerns from members of the public that it was being treated like a racetrack.
There have been several reports of some of them driving anti-socially, speeding and racing.
