Group of travellers set up camp on park

-

A LARGE group of travellers has moved on to a council-owned park in Derby.

Since arriving, they have been issued with a notice to quit order after setting up an illegal camp on the park at the Racecourse.

Derby City Council confirmed the group had been issued with the eviction notice yesterday.

There are thought to be more than 30 caravans currently parked on the site.

It comes after travellers had set up a camp in the Mackworth but were urged to move on by local councillors.

Groups of travellers have also previously been spotted on Nashers Park in Alvaston, despite measures having been put in place to prevent vehicles accessing the site.

A spokesperson for Derby City Council said: “We are aware of the group arrival on Chaddesden Racecourse and are working alongside Derbyshire Constabulary and other partners in managing the situation.

“Council officers have visited and engaged with the group and we will be taking the necessary actions in line with policy and procedures”.
