Young Derby doctor caught by paedophile hunters after trying to groom teenagers

- By TOM BEDFORD

A NEWLY qualified Derby GP drove 200 miles to have sex with a 15-year-old schoolgirl who turned out to be the bait in a trap set by online vigilantes.

Dr Jamil Rehman was found guilty of attempting to groom under-age girls after being trapped by two self-styled paedophile hunting groups.

The 25-year-old medic booked a hotel room and drove off to Wales, thinking he was going to meet and have sex with a 15-year-old called Kayla.

He was also tricked by a decoy from a vigilante group posing as a 13-year-old girl called Sienna, Swansea Crown Court heard.

He has now been suspended by the General Medical Council and awaits sentencing by the courts.

Prosecutor Dyfed Thomas said: “He conversed with two people he believed were children and intended to have sexual activity with them.”

Rehman drove to Carmarthen, West Wales, to meet the eldest girl after making contact in an online chatroom called Meet4U.

The vigilantes called police, who searched his car and found a bunch of red roses and orgasm pills, Swansea Crown Court was told.

Rehman claimed he had wanted the girl to be his tour guide on his visit to Wales.

Prosecutor Dyfed Thomas said: “The messages show there was a degree of intimacy between this man and what he thought was a 15-year-old girl.

“The doctor said his hobby was driving and he offered to take her ‘anywhere on earth’ saying: ‘My car front seat is waiting for you.’

“The day before they were due to meet up in Carmarthen, they had a conversation about the girl showering herself.”

Swansea Crown Court heard that instead of a 15-year-old girl, Rehman came face-to-face with a member of a group calling itself Child Protectors Wales.

Mr Thomas said: “The police were called and when they searched his car they found a bunch of roses and also some tablets called Superstop Orgasm.

“He says they arranged to meet for the purposes of her being his tour guide.”

The court heard Rehman was also caught by a different paedophile hunting group using a decoy claiming to be a 13-year-old girl called Sienna.

Mr Thomas said: “In fact, he was having conversations with a woman... who was posing as a 13-year-old girl.

“He conversed with two people he believed were children and had every intention of having some sort of sexual activity with them.”

A jury found him guilty of attempted sexual grooming of two underage girls in April 2019. He was cleared of making an indecent image of a child.

Rehman was freed on bail – but warned he could go to prison when he is sentenced next month.

Tracy Harrison is chief executive of Safe and Sound, the Derbyshire charity which supports young people who are victims of child exploitation including online grooming as well as their families. She said: “This is a deeply disturbing case and highlights the increased dangers facing young people of online grooming.

“This case thankfully did not put a young person in danger but, for every instance a perpetrator is trapped in a sting, there are countless others who fall victim to online predators.

“I would appeal to all young people and families to check privacy settings on their online accounts and to visit our website www.safeandsoundgroup. org.uk for further information and advice.”
