481 new cases of Covid-19 across county

ALMOST 500 new coronaviru­s cases have been confirmed across Derbyshire – as the UK saw its highest daily death toll since March.

There were 481 positive tests in the latest 24-hour recording period, according to Public Health England statistics published on Tuesday. The total was down on the 522 recorded on Monday.

The new cases included 123 in Derby and 358 across the wider Derbyshire area. Erewash recorded the highest number outside of Derby with 78 more infections.

Nationally, the Government said a further 170 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 131,149.

This is the highest number of daily reported deaths since March 12, when 175 were reported.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.
