Pub could become bar and grill in new plans

A DERBY pub could be turned in a bar and grill, as well as flats, according to new plans.

The Crown and Arrows pub, in Sinfin Avenue, Shelton Lock, is to be extended and have an additional floor added to accommodate the proposals.

The owner of the venue, which has been in use as pub since 1978, wants to turn it into a bar and grill serving food and drink for customers.

They also want to install a total of eight residential flats on the first and second floors of the building.

These flats would be a combination of four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom properties.

Each flat would have its own open plan kitchen, dining and living area, while three of the two-bedroom flats would have en-suite bathrooms in addition to communal shower rooms.

Access to these flats would come from separate entrances which would not be used by customers entering and exiting the bar and grill on the ground floor.

The application states there would be six visitor and resident car parking spaces reserved for people in the flats, with 18 parking spaces left for customers of the eatery.

It adds that it will try to minimise noise coming from the bar on the ground floor into the flats on the floors above by installing “noise separation” in between the apartments and the venue below.

In a design and access statement submitted to Derby City Council with the application, the developer says the flats would be built in a “highly sustainable location where residential development should be encouraged”.

It added that that it “contributes to the regeneration and redevelopment of the site and provides a more sustainable urban environment”, while also representing an “efficient use of land”.

The full plans can be viewed on the city council planning portal under the reference 21/01139/FUL.
