Three start-ups are on the shortlist for our business awards

- By RACHEL RUTHERFORD

IT hasn’t been an easy year for any business to navigate. Remarkably, those in Derbyshire showed conviction and commitment, some even going further than surviving and instead thriving.

Making sure this hard work from our business community is commended, the DerbyshireLive Business Awards, in association with Champions (UK) PLC, is putting on an extra special event.

With many awards and titles to be handed out to worthy winners, the exciting evening will be filled with positivity and triumphs, something we are all in need of.

The event will be at Derby Arena on Thursday, October

21. This year’s headline sponsors are Invictus Communications, Futures, Diginius, Derby Arena and Derby College.

The Start-Up Business of the Year category, sponsored by Wheeldon Brothers, celebrates companies across the region that have been in operation for a maximum of three years. The finalists are some of the region’s brightest new businesses who are already making waves. Not about to stop soon, the achievements of these businesses contribute positively to the local economy and community due to their hard work and ambition. The finalists are:

PROJECT D

A forward-thinking handmade doughnut bakery, Project D has reimagined how the popular sweet snack is perceived and presented.

A mission to create the “world’s best doughnut” took Project D on a research trip around the world. This culminated in two artisan bakeries, a raft of pop-up stores and partnerships with Amazon and Coca Cola.

Its distinctive pink branding and “D” logo has been used to launch youth-oriented clothing merchandise with streetwear label Ratchet. The range seamlessly incorporates fashion trends with their own branding, fortifying the youthful, fun feel of the Project D brand.

COLLEAGUE BOX

Colleague Box offers a personalised, gift boxing experience, ideal for sending to work colleagues and potential or existing clients. It also offers non-corporate gifting, tailored to friends, family and loved ones.

Colleague Box was born of the pandemic and initially launched to help employees reach their teams at home. It delivers directly to workplaces to encourage engagement, reassurance and motivation. The boxes have been frequently used at virtual get-togethers, award ceremonies and as part of marketing campaigns. Customisation in the form of individual or brand aligned messaging is a core part of the Colleague Box experience.
