A matter of how many months out for striker

- By STEVE NICHOLSON stephen.nicholson@reachplc.com

DERBY County are still waiting for word on how long Colin KazimRichards will be out of their plans.

The striker injured his Achilles tendon in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Peterborough United on Saturday.

“He has had a scan and we know what the injury is, but we are waiting on a specialist’s opinion in terms of whether he needs surgery or not,” said manager Wayne Rooney.

“So we can’t put a timescale on it yet but I know it will be a long time either way.

“It will be months. How many I don’t really want to say – whether it will be six months or nine months or three months – because we don’t know yet.”

Better news for Rooney was that he expected Lee Buchanan to be able to take part in the game at Hull following his thigh injury, while Kornell McDonald (hamstring) is also on the way back.

“Kornell is planning to train on Thursday. He will do a light session and he should be fit and ready for Sheffield United in the cup,” said Rooney.

Jason Knight is the Rams’ other longer-term loss after the Republic of Ireland international midfielder injured an ankle in training during pre-season.

“Knighty is working hard in the gym, he is not quite outside yet,” added Rooney.

“He is out of his protective boot and he is progressing the way we thought he would. I think we are probably looking after the international break before Knighty is back with us.”

Tom Huddlestone has rejoined Hull City on a one-year deal ahead of the Tigers’ home game against Derby County tonight.

The midfielder, who left the Rams last summer, played for the Tigers between 2013-17.

In that time he helped Hull to their highest Premier League finish of 16th, as well as reaching the FA Cup final and securing European qualification in 2014.

Huddlestone, 34, has been training with the squad and featured in their pre-season matches against Scunthorpe United and Manchester United Under-23s.

Head coach Grant McCann told the club website: “His experience and quality will be invaluable for us this season and he will certainly benefit the young players we have in our squad.

“Having been with us now for nearly four weeks, he’s getting fitter every day and we will continue to get him sharper as the weeks go on.”
