Coronaviru­s cases shoot up by almost 100

A FURTHER 574 coronaviru­s cases were confirmed across Derbyshire in the latest 24-hour recording period yesterday – that’s up by almost 100 from the 481 recorded on Tuesday.

Two more deaths have also been recorded at Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital, bringing the total for the county’s hospitals to 2,123.

The new cases confirmed yesterday by Public Health England included 163 in Derby and 411 across the wider Derbyshire area.

Amber Valley recorded the highest number outside of Derby with 95 more infections.

Nationally, the Government has said a further 111 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 131,260.

As of 9am yesterday, there had been a further 33,904 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

The total number of cases reported in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic, as of August 12 are:

Amber Valley - 11,949 (+95) Bolsover - 8,152 (+40) Chesterfie­ld - 8,752 (+37) Derby - 26,678 (+163) Derbyshire Dales - 4,662 (+27) Erewash - 11,068 (+73)

High Peak - 7,999 (+48)

North East Derbyshire - 8,909 (+42) South Derbyshire - 10,026 (+49)

Locally, the number of Covidrelat­ed hospital deaths since the start of the pandemic is as follows (this data is not updated at weekends or on bank holidays): Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust - 1,660

Derbyshire Healthcare - 2 Derbyshire Community Health Services - 38 Chesterfie­ld Royal Hospital - 423
