City’s pothole ‘hell road’ is set to finally be repaired

PART of a major Derby road which was named as one of the city’s worst for potholes is set to be resurfaced this autumn.

Derby City Council has confirmed its plans to resurface a well-used stretch of London Road, in Alvaston, between its junctions with Lincoln Avenue and the roundabout where motorists can reach Raynesway and Shardlow Road.

The busy route was originally scheduled to undergo surface dressing earlier this month, but has since been removed from that programme due to the condition of the road.

The local authority has now confirmed that resurfacing works are scheduled to take place in London Road in November.

A spokesman for the city council said: “Originally London Road was due to be part of the ‘surface dressing’ programme during August but has since been removed from that programme due to the condition of the road and is now scheduled for ‘resurfacing work’ starting in November. “The work will be between Shardlow Road and Lincoln Avenue junctions.”

Last year, Derby Telegraph readers named London Road as the thirdworst road in the city for potholes. Earlier this year, fears were raised about a pedestrian crossing in London Road, Alvaston, which had so many potholes it was described as being “like a mountain range”.

The pedestrian crossing is located not far from the roundabout where motorists can reach Raynesway and Shardlow Road and is set to be resurfaced as part of the upcoming works.

The planned work in London Road forms part of a twoyear city-wide resurfacing scheme. Around 17 months into the city council’s highways project, work has so far been completed on a number of key routes, including Normanton Road, Ascot Drive, Spider Island, and most recently Maine Drive, in Chaddesden.
