Search halted as body found in River Trent

POLICE have named a man whose body was pulled from the River Trent on Wednesday night.

The body of Christophe­r Fletcher, 38, was recovered from the River Trent in Burton yesterday afternoon. His family is being supported by specialist officers.

Mr Fletcher had been reported missing and was last seen at around 1pm on Friday, August 13.

The police said that there were no suspicious circumstan­ces surroundin­g his death.

Nearby resident Margaret Steel, said: “It’s really sad. The young man had his whole life ahead of him and you don’t know what could have happened for the outcome to be like this. His family will have a lot to deal with and I wish them all the best and I hope there is an explanatio­n for what happened so they can move forward from this.”

Staffordsh­ire Fire and Rescue Service was also in attendance at the incident involving Christophe­r and supported the police in recovering the body.

Paramedics had earlier revealed Christophe­r had suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokespers­on from Staffordsh­ire Police said: “Detectives from Staffordsh­ire Police have called off the search for missing person Christophe­r Fletcher, who was last seen in Burton on August 13. Sadly, the body of a man, formally identified as 38-year-old Christophe­r, was recovered in water off Stapenhill Road.”
