Walkers’ epic canal trek in aid of hospice

-

A GROUP of walkers are aiming to trek more than 90 miles in aid of Rainbows Hospice.

The group of six Footloose Walkers will be trekking along the Trent and Mersey Canal from Preston Brook to Shardlow for a week, starting on Monday.

In previous years the group have raised money for prostate cancer and breast cancer but this year are supporting Rainbows, the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people. It provides care and support to families impacted by life-limiting conditions.

The hospice, in Loughborough, is funded mainly from donations and events.

Tony Haslam, of the Footloose Walkers, said: “This year will be different as there will be six of us – three ladies are joining us this time.

“The walk will be 92 miles along the Trent and Mersey Canal from Preston Brook to Shardlow. It starts on August 23 finishes on August 29.

“The vice chair of South Derbyshire District Council, Cllr Paul Dunn, will be joining us on the last day as Rainbows is his nominated charity for this year.”

“We would be grateful if people can help us raise more awareness and funds for this very worthy cause.”

Anyone who would like to support the group, which includes Mr Haslam, Jane Bills, Christine Wain, Penny Marsden, David Bradbury and Phil Bibby, can do so at www. JustGiving.com/tony-haslam3.
