Windows on history older than thought
THE stained-glass windows in Canterbury Cathedral are possibly among the oldest in the world. Windows depicting the life of Christ have been re-dated using a new technique which will not cause any damage to them.
It is now thought some of them may have been in place as long ago as the mid-1100s.
This could possibly mean that they would have been there in 1170 when Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered there.
These windows could tell a great many stories from very many years ago. They really do look so wonderful and are fascinating for anyone visiting a very old cathedral or church.
In any event, they are a beautiful sight and give people pleasure as they walk along the aisles.
