‘Learn to love yourself’

VICKY says: “The mind is very powerful and, to lose weight, you need to be in the right mindset.

“My top tip would be to have realistic beliefs; you’re not going to go from a size 24 to a size 12 overnight. Visualise yourself slipping into those size 12 jeans and you’ll get there, if you do this on a regular basis.

Think about the language you use, too. The mind does not like loss; it will take you away from what you’re trying to achieve.

“Use words such as ‘reduction’, ‘slimmer’, ‘thinner’ or ‘lighter’ and think yourself thin. Do not deny yourself anything; that deprivatio­n will have negative connotatio­ns and undo all the hard work.

“Managing your inner voice is key to helping you to be who you want to be. Above all, though, it’s important to be kind to yourself and learn to love yourself.”
