Therapist who lost 6st has top weight-loss tips

- By KERRY GANLY

A DERBYSHIRE therapist who managed to shift six stone in weight following the birth of her second child has shared her top tips on how to shed the extra pounds gained during lockdown after a national survey revealed that almost half of the UK population have gained weight during lockdown.

Public Health England (PHE) have launched a new campaign to try to get Brits fit after finding that 41% of adults have put on weight since the first lockdown in March 2020, with most gaining at least half a stone.

Victoria Ann Spencer-Kibble, who specialises in Rapid Transformation Therapy (RTT) – a form of hypnosis which can also help with confidence, self-esteem, fears, addiction, phobias and mental wellbeing, said: “The mind is very powerful and, to lose weight, you need to be in the right mindset.

“Think about the language you use, too. The mind does not like loss; it will take you away from what you’re trying to achieve. Use words when referring to your weight journey such as ‘reduction,’ ‘slimmer,’ ‘thinner’ ‘leaner’ or ‘lighter’ and think yourself thin.

“Do not deny yourself anything; that deprivation will have negative connotations and undo all the hard work. Sometimes we all need a treat – it makes us feel good – and when you feel good and are in a happy place, then it will show on the outside.”

Vicky, who has two children, gained six stone after their birth – and was told that it was because she had an under-active thyroid. Determined to regain her postbaby figure, Vicky found pictures of herself as a size 12 and stuck them on her fridge.

She said: “Sticking an old photograph of you looking fabulous or how you’d like to look on the front of your fridge to spur you on is a great thing to do – you see it, say it, feel when you open the fridge.

“Weight issues are a form of addiction; you can be addicted to sugar, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate or carbohydrates and that can be affecting your weight.

“If it’s carbs you can’t do without, buy yourself a croissant and leave it outside in the garden. That croissant will stay in perfect form for up to 20 years. Think about what that croissant will do inside your body.

“Similarly try popping a tub of margarine outside – without the lid – and no flies will ever touch that as it is one molecule away from plastic. Do you really want that inside your body?

“Another tip is, when you’re in a bakery or supermarket and are passing row after row of tempting treats, run your hands down your waist and feel your body. It’s waist on your waist-line or waste in your bin! Managing your inner voice is key to helping you to be who you want to be. Above all, though, it’s important to be kind to yourself and learn to love yourself.”

The PHE hopes that its new ‘Better Health’ campaign can help the nation to lose weight, too, with a range of free evidence-based advice and guidance.

It also recommends the NHS Weight Loss Plan app, which is available for Apple and Android devices.
