Pentagon set for up to 20 weeks of roadworks

-

UP to 20 weeks of roadworks will start at one of Derby’s busiest roundabouts on Wednesday.

Derby City Council will be replacing traffic lights at Pentagon Island, with the intention to have the new smart, low-voltage LED lights, which prioritise buses, operational before Christmas.

The work, which will also see all the pedestrian and cyclist crossing points replaced, will be completed by the council’s own in-house team with an expected cost of £550k.

At times, lane closures will be needed but these will only take place during off-peak hours, from 9.30am until 3.30pm and then again overnight from 8pm until 6am.

Other roadworks planned in the city this week include:

■■Derby City Council will be resurfacing a stretch of Crayford Road, between Holbrook Road and Field Lane, from today. A road closure will be in place between 8am and 6pm. The work is expected to be complete by Friday, September 10. A diversion route will be in place for motorists.

■■Wood Road, Chaddesden: Derby City Council will be resurfacing part of the road, between the Chaddesden Lane/Morley Road roundabout and Max Road from today. The road will be closed between 8am and 6pm to allow workers to replace the road surface and road markings. Work is set to be completed by Tuesday, August 31. A diversion route will be in place.

■■Oakleigh Avenue, Chaddesden: Five days of road surface repairs will be taking place between the junctions with Chaddesden Park Road and Reginald Road South, from today. A road closure will be in place between 8am and 3pm each day until Friday, August 27, to allow the Derby City Councilorganised works to be carried out. Residents and visitors must find alternative parking to ensure work can take place.
