Memories of mum at her sewing machine

-

HOW very interesting to learn that on August 12, 1851, inventor Isaac Singer patented the Singer sewing machine (Bygones, August 12).

I do have wonderful memories of my mother making our blue and white spotted school uniform. Her feet would be very busy on the foot treadle.

Mum used to make all of our school uniforms and her own dresses. A very homely woman she knitted her own cardies and jumpers as well.

It is all a very long time ago now but your wonderful article has evoked some truly memorable times from my childhood, she was also a very talented artist.

It is a shame when you are young you don’t appreciate the great qualities in your parents.

The picture of her sitting at her Singer treadmill sewing machine will remain in my mind for a long time now.

Thanks so much for your lovely article that has brought back into my thoughts some really wonderful times from my younger days.
