Man arrested on suspicion of rape attack
A MAN has been arrested following reports of an alleged rape, police have confirmed.
Officers were called at 2.40am on Saturday to reports that a woman had been raped near to Andressey Passage, off High Street, Burton, a spokesman for Staffordshire Police said.
A 21-year-old man from Burton was arrested on suspicion of rape on Saturday and has been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries, the spokesman added.
Police taped off the alleyway from the early hours of Saturday morning as part of the investigation. The cordon was eventually taken down at around 9.30am.
Inspector Jonathan Staite, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We are investigating an incident in an alleyway. The exact nature of that incident is not yet known.
“We are currently supporting the victim and getting a clear understanding of what has happened.”
