Man arrested on suspicion of rape attack

A MAN has been arrested following reports of an alleged rape, police have confirmed.

Officers were called at 2.40am on Saturday to reports that a woman had been raped near to Andressey Passage, off High Street, Burton, a spokesman for Staffordsh­ire Police said.

A 21-year-old man from Burton was arrested on suspicion of rape on Saturday and has been released on conditiona­l bail pending further inquiries, the spokesman added.

Police taped off the alleyway from the early hours of Saturday morning as part of the investigat­ion. The cordon was eventually taken down at around 9.30am.

Inspector Jonathan Staite, of Staffordsh­ire Police, said: “We are investigat­ing an incident in an alleyway. The exact nature of that incident is not yet known.

“We are currently supporting the victim and getting a clear understand­ing of what has happened.”
