Tom tucks into extra helping of chicken tikka masala

-

IT seems that even a Hollywood A-lister such as Tom Cruise likes nothing better on a Saturday night than to pop out for a curry.

Twenty-four hours after watching that dramatic train stunt in the Peak District, the star was at a Birmingham curry house.

He spent two hours at Asha’s restaurant in Newhall Street along with five other people and his security detail. Tom was so impressed with his chicken tikka masala that he ordered another helping.

The group, who only gave the restaurant a few hours’ notice before they arrived, didn’t want any fuss, with Tom insisting he wasn’t treated any differently to everyone else.

Asha’s general manager Nouman Farooqui said: “When he came he said he didn’t want any fuss and just wanted to be part of the atmosphere. He wanted a meal just like any other guest and simply wanted to enjoy an authentic Indian meal. A few diners recognised him, but not all. Nobody made a fuss, though when he left people went a little bit crazy.

“He agreed to have his picture taken outside in a socially distanced way and had his mask on for the first picture. He then took his mask off and said: ‘Take another one’.”

Nouman said the party was sharing meals, with Tom enjoying what he’d had of his first chicken tikka masala so much that he ordered a second portion.

He said: “Tom asked for it to be served with extra spices and he really liked it. Once he’d finished it he ordered a second portion.”
