14-year-old suffered fatal gunshot wound
A DERBYSHIRE schoolboy has been discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
An inquest has opened into the death of 14-year old Jack Geoff Spencer who was found in his bedroom in Wirksworth, on Friday.
Opening the inquest into Mr Spencer’s death, area coroner Mr Peter Nieto told Chesterfield Coroner’s Court Jack had been formally identified by his father, Kevin Spencer.
Mr Nieto said: “The early information that’s been received by the coroner’s office is that Jack was found by his mother in his bedroom laid on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head.”
A police investigation has been launched into the incident and a post mortem examination was carried out on Saturday.
The preliminary cause of death is listed as a single gunshot wound to the head.
Mr Nieto adjourned the inquest with the plan to review again at a future date, currently set as Monday, November 15.
