14-year-old suffered fatal gunshot wound

A DERBYSHIRE schoolboy has been discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.

An inquest has opened into the death of 14-year old Jack Geoff Spencer who was found in his bedroom in Wirksworth, on Friday.

Opening the inquest into Mr Spencer’s death, area coroner Mr Peter Nieto told Chesterfie­ld Coroner’s Court Jack had been formally identified by his father, Kevin Spencer.

Mr Nieto said: “The early informatio­n that’s been received by the coroner’s office is that Jack was found by his mother in his bedroom laid on the floor with a gunshot wound to his head.”

A police investigat­ion has been launched into the incident and a post mortem examinatio­n was carried out on Saturday.

The preliminar­y cause of death is listed as a single gunshot wound to the head.

Mr Nieto adjourned the inquest with the plan to review again at a future date, currently set as Monday, November 15.
