Bid to raze school buildings

-

A DERBYSHIRE school wants to demolish buildings which it says are “no longer fit for purpose”.

Trent College, in Long Eaton, wants to knock down a group of workshops, as well as a single-storey classroom, to the east of Westhorpe Drive.

According to planning documents submitted by the independent school to Erewash Borough Council, the demolition of the buildings is needed due to their poor state of repair and for “future school expansion purposes”.

In a cover letter from agent Planning and Design Group, on behalf of the school, it states: “The workshop buildings are no longer fit for purpose and are in a poor state of repair.

“The classroom block is in a serviceable condition and is currently being used on a temporary basis following the closure of Ockbrook School, but is not suitable for long term use.

“In the longer term the site will be available for school expansion / reconfiguration.”

In a demolition plan submitted with the application, it says work is anticipated to take place between 8am and 6pm on weekdays.

It will also take place from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with any work on Sundays subject to reasonable notice being given. It adds it does not anticipate any night time working.

The school adds that if given permission, it expects work to start and finish in November.
