A link between salt intake and blood pressure isn’t new, and now an analysis of 85 trials on dietary salt reduction and blood pressure reports a consistent effect across a range of blood pressures and salt intakes. However, the analysis shows that the benefits of reducing dietary sodium are likely to apply not only to people with high blood pressure but also to those with normal blood pressure.

The number of pregnant women getting a Covid-19 vaccinatio­n has risen by a fifth in recent weeks. It follows a concerted effort by health officials to reassure expectant mothers about the safety of getting a jab. A total of 62,311 women, who reported they were

pregnant or could be pregnant at the time of receiving the vaccine, had come forward and received their first dose by the end of July, Public Health England (PHE) said.
