New virus death as county records more than 400 fresh cases

DERBYSHIRE has recorded one new Covid-19 related death and more than 400 further cases of coronaviru­s over the past 24 hours.

According to the latest Public Health England figures issued yesterday, there have now been 101,305 coronaviru­s cases in Derbyshire since the start of the pandemic – meaning 459 infections have been reported since Monday.

This means there were 165 fewer cases reported today compared to Monday – when 623 infections were reported.

The Covid-19 related death, which occurred in the Derby area, comes after five coronaviru­s-related deaths were recorded across Derbyshire on Monday.

The new cases confirmed included 145 in Derby and 314 across the wider Derbyshire area.

Erewash and Amber Valley recorded the highest number outside of Derby with each area recording 46 more infections.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 2,603 Covidrelat­ed deaths in the region.

Nationally, the Government said a further 174 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 131,854.

It is the highest reported daily death toll since March 12, although the figures are likely to include a lag in reporting over the weekend.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificat­e.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 30,838 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.
