Peace to be highlighted in city next month

-

DERBY’S fourth Peace Week will take place in September, highlighting the need for conflict resolution and social justice.

It will start with a talk at the Multifaith Centre on Saturday, September 18, on nuclear waste.

There will be films at Quad, including Chaplin’s The Great Dictator, and also workshops there involving the new police commissioner for Derbyshire about what can be done to stop violence towards women.

Peace Week will finish with a concert at St Peter’s Centre on Saturday, September 25, featuring Hannah White, a rising star on the folk scene.

At least one in 10 children throughout the world lives in an area of armed conflict. This affects their education, health and family life. We need to recognise that selling weapons to countries such as Saudi Arabia will result in more civilian casulaties in Yemen, where there is a civil war.

We need to recognise that conflict can be avoided both between countries but also between individuals.
