Great idea, the cause of more problems, or will some just ignore the new rules?

-

THE move has prompted a mixed reaction from readers, after we asked on Facebook if the plan should be expanded across the city.

Some have praised the idea, saying it is safer for parents and children trying to get to school, as well as being better for the environment.

David Barber said: “Great idea, especially with winter coming there will be cars parked outside schools an hour before closing time with the driver keeping the engine running to keep warm.”

Lisa Davies said she thought it was a good idea, but thought people wouldn’t necessarily obey the rules as they would “just ignore it”.

“They park over the driveway and you get a lot of verbal if you ask them to move,” she said.

Robert Shaw said: “How many kids need to be ferried to school? We had to walk a mile to ours and came home for dinner.”

Jayne Sloman said: “I hate seeing kiddies walking between cars or having to step out on the road to check the traffic because of they way cars park outside school.”

However, others were not so keen on the idea, saying it would just cause even more traffic problems.

Victoria Gardner said it would cause problems for parents taking children to more than one school.

She said: “I see the logic in it but not everything is that simple”

Sue Barber said the focus should be on enforcing rules that already exist in these areas.

“What should happen is that people parking illegally should get on-the-spot fines,” she said. “Why should other road users be inconvenienced by roads being closed?”

Meanwhile, Sarah Slack decried the “pure laziness” of some parents who ignore the rules.

“They will all descend onto nearby roads causing issues there or they will drive up as far as they can drop the children off then drive off,” she said. “Where my children go parents stop right outside the school gates, the children get out and parents drive off. It’s pure laziness from many.”
