A DERBYSHIRE hotel has been transformed after a takeover – and now boasts spectacular treehouses and woodland hives in the grounds for an idyllic rural getaway.

Although it’s just minutes from Ashbourne, it’s like being in the middle of nowhere at Callow Hall, the first project for new boutique hotel group Wildhive.

Set to open on September 1 following a £3.5 million refurbishment, the hotel team have reported that bookings are strong, particularly over weekends.

General manager Jeremy Whitworth said: “We’ve created something truly special here at Callow Hall and we are excited to share it.

“It is a fabulous hotel, with a rich history in a stunning location of Ashbourne.

“Callow is a place to gather and celebrate with friends and family, to immerse yourself in nature and to explore, hike, run, cycle. It’s about stepping away and switching off.”

The property, once a private country house which opened as a hotel nearly 40 years ago, has undergone a complete transformation with interiors by London designer Isabella Worsley, plus the addition of 11 new woodland hives boasting one bedroom, an ensuite bathroom, kitchenette and outdoor bathing.

At the far end of the ancient woodland two lofty treehouses are perched high above the ground for a secluded escape with a stunning view.

Custom-built, they are geared for self-catering with an open plan sitting room, two bedrooms, kitchen, ensuite bathroom and outdoor bathing on the decking.

Guests will be able to enjoy a “true immersion in nature”, surrounded by 35 acres of countryside.

Both the hives and treehouses will be equipped with sticks and marshmallows for the communal firepit in the woods and binoculars for wildlife watching.

The main house has been given a makeover with plush interiors and each of the 15 individually-designed

bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and bespoke detailing.

The new contemporary glasswalled restaurant, the Garden Room, will serve seasonal dishes from breakfast through to dinner and has a roof containing the plant sedum - which forms a tightly-knitted green carpet - to provide a habitat for birds and insects.

Light and airy, the feature bar will serve cocktails with stunning views over the landscape, and doors opening on to the patio and gardens beyond.

Away from the house visitors can enjoy afternoon tea in the Secret Garden, or picnic by the burbling

Bentley Brook.

Energetic guests can try out the new Coach House Wellness Centre which has an undercover gym area in the landscaped courtyard with rowing machines and interactive bikes.

A range of bikes including e-bikes will be available for hire and in the

Map Room guests can plot their next adventure, whether on foot or by pedal.

Or for something more relaxing there is a yoga studio, a sauna and steam room and three treatment rooms offering a range of organic experiences including massages and facials.
