513 new coronavirus cases as three more die

MORE than 500 new Covid cases have been recorded across Derbyshire - while a further three people have died.

There were 513 positive tests in the latest official figures on Thursday – 156 in Derby and 357 in the wider Derbyshire area.

On Wednesday, Derbyshire recorded its highest number of new coronavirus cases since July 22, with 634 new infections.

Outside of Derby, Erewash saw the biggest number of new cases today with 63, followed by High Peak with 59.

The smallest rise yesterday was in Derbyshire Dales, with 14.

Three new deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test were reported in Derbyshire yesterday – one in Derby, one in South Derbyshire and one in Amber Valley.

Nationwide, a further 140 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 132,003.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Thursday, there had been a further 38,281 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK.

Government data up to August 25 shows that of the 90,095,045 Covid jabs given in the UK, 47,860,628 were first doses, a rise of 68,076 on the previous day.

Some 42,234,417 were second doses, an increase of 161,705.
