Audi is stretching a point
Audi’s Skysphere concept car, unveiled at the Monterey Car Week, looks pretty incredible but under the skin it’s even more wacky. For starters, you can mess about with the length of the whole car.
The Skysphere’s wheelbase can shrink by up to 25cm thanks to a complex system of electric motors and mechanical linkages. It means you can drive in short mode for sporty dynamics or in full length for more comfort and luxury. And not only do the axles move further apart – but the cabin length changes too.
Sadly I can’t see the Skysphere being anything other than a fantasy machine.
Imagine the complications of crash-testing a car that can change its own length.
