No Marshall move

-

WAYNE Rooney has played down reports that David Marshall is about to leave Derby County.

The Scotland international goalkeeper has slipped to third choice at Derby behind Kelle Roos and Ryan Allsop.

This has sparked speculation over whether the 36-year-old will leave the club ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

He is reportedly on the radar of Liverpool, say the Daily Mail.

Asked if Marshall is leaving, Rams boss Rooney said: “That is the first I have heard of it, I haven’t heard anything on David Marshall leaving the club.

“I think I mentioned last week I understand it is a very frustrating time for him, I get that, but we have three very good goalkeepers at the club and obviously I have to make a decision on who plays and on who is the second goalkeeper.

“That’s clear from the decision I have made from the team selections, but Marshy is a very good keeper and someone I would not be afraid to put in or put on the bench.

“If that (a move to another club) is something that is realistic, then it is something we will look at because what I also want to do is make sure David Marshall will get his playing time.

“Whether that is elsewhere or not, we will have to see what the options are. There has been no approach for him that I know of.”
