Police step up patrols after sex incidents

REPORTS of a man touching women inappropri­ately on a river path through has triggered a heightened police presence in and around a Derby park.

Officers are looking for a male believed to be connected to incidents between 12pm and 5pm on Monday at Alvaston Lake, the river path and Pride Park.

Police say they are looking for a man described as a white, potentiall­y tanned male, short with stubbly facial hair, short brown hair and wearing blue clothing.

A statement on the Chellaston and Shelton Lock Police Safer Neighbourh­ood Team’s Facebook page reads: “On August 23, there were several reports of a male on a bike approachin­g lone females and touching them inappropri­ately before apologisin­g and making the excuse he thought it was someone else.

“Since then officers from our team have conducted patrols aimed at identifyin­g the male involved.

“The male is described as a white male, possibly tanned, short, stubble facial hair, short brown hair and was wearing blue clothing.

“As well as our continued enquiries and supporting the victims we are holding a pop-up event tomorrow at the park with safety advice and gadgets such as a personal alarm.

“Officers will be at Alvaston park car park 12pm and 1pm tomorrow if anyone with any concerns would like to attend.”

Businesses also replied to the Facebook post offering to hand out alarms to those who could not attend the event.
